Hand off to a coding agent

Not open to everyone yet. The setup file is online, but the kit it installs isn't on npm, so your agent stops at the install step today. Founding Creators get it first.

Open llms.txt

Give Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or any coding agent one text from your place. It sets up the project, writes the code and pushes a draft. You enable it.

You need:

  • The HatchWorld app, and a place of your own in it.
  • A coding agent that can run commands in a terminal, and Node 22 or newer on that machine.

1. Open the hand-off in your place

In the app: Settings → For developers → Developer mode. Walk into your place and tap the code button under the wand. Code of this place opens. Tap Claude Code / Codex.

2. Pick what the key may do

  • The key lives: 1, 7 or 30 days. 7 is the default.
  • The agent may enable versions: off by default. Leave it off and the agent can only push drafts; you turn each version on yourself.

Then tap Issue a key and Copy. The key is shown once.

3. Paste the text into your agent

The text has four lines:

HatchWorld place "Corner Café" (S7kQ2xR9mPa). You may edit its code.
Read https://spaces.hatchworld.io/pub/sdk/install.md first and follow it exactly.
Place key (rights: draft, expires 2026-10-17): hwk_…
Keep the key in the env var HATCHWORLD_PLACE_KEY; never write it to files, commits or output.

Open an empty folder in your agent and paste it as your first message:

AgentWhere
Claude CodeRun claude in the folder, paste
CodexRun codex in the folder, paste
CursorOpen the folder, open the chat in Agent mode, paste
WindsurfOpen the folder, open Cascade, paste
GitHub CopilotOpen the folder in VS Code, open Copilot Chat in Agent mode, paste

Then tell it what the place should do, in your own words.

4. What the agent does

It follows install.md, step by step:

  1. Checks Node 22 or newer and that the folder is empty.
  2. Runs npm i -D @hatchworld/place-kit@0.1.0 and npx place-kit init <place key>.
  3. Reads AGENTS.md, the project's rules: JavaScript with JSDoc types, one API module per part, 64 KB per part, the key only in HATCHWORLD_PLACE_KEY.
  4. Runs npx place-kit pull and npx place-kit build until both parts print ok.
  5. Runs npx place-kit push. The place gets a new version as a draft.

It can't enable a version unless you ticked The agent may enable versions.

5. Enable the draft

In the app, open Code of this place and enable the new version. Walk in and see it.

When the key stops working

401 keys.expired or 401 keys.revoked means the key is no longer valid. The agent is told not to look for another way in. Issue a new key in the same sheet and paste the new text.

To take a key back at any time: Code of this place → Claude Code / Codex → Revoke.

Next How a place runs server part, client part, drafts, and why your class is new on every event.
